Adventures of the Mathis Family
We finally made our way out to a local park to let Caleb have a go at a swing! He loved it. While we all explored the swings, slide, and big wooden train together, I am pretty sure Caleb’s favorite part was watching the other children play. As a side note, what do people do to anchor their baby in those huge baby swings? We wedged a several items behind Caleb to keep him from flopping around as he swung. It looked ridiculous, but it worked :)
By 8 months babies have had a ridiculous number of firsts: first bath, first smile, first solid food, etc. Here are a few I found looking back at his calendar, that I apparently decided were noteworthy: 10 days old – first Chiropractic visit, 10 weeks – groove to Chopin, right at 3 mo – roll over!, 4 mo – tummy time finally okay, 5 mo – first time wearing a hoody (first zipper!).. also, fake coughing begins, 6 mo – first cereal!, 7 mo – start acting out finger-play songs with those chubby lil fingers, and 8 mo – first actual solid food (Puffs… since there are still no teeth to be found :)) Obviously there are a million more milestones, but it’s amazing to look back and remember how excited we were when each of those happened, despite how small they seem now. Here’s an almost-8-month photo of the little man.

One of the many things I’ve enjoyed watching over the last 16 months is Caleb’s changing responses to bubbles. These early days were just filled with gleeful squeals and attempts to eat the bubbles. That has morphed to arm-waving, then to clapping, and now to actually chasing down those shiny circles! Such fun!
First, I’m sorry I called you all gangsters. Second, I have commandeered the family blog and I have many exciting plans for this new power I hold… we’ll see how those all unfold. Until then, however, I’m going to stick to the few simple things I’ve been taught: typing stuff and uploading adorable photos. Now, sit back, grab a cup of coffee, turn on some nostalgic tunes, and enjoy catching up on the 10 months of our lives. … “aa-and friends are friends forever, if the Lord’s the lord of them…” (not really pertinent here, but I’m trying to set the mood.)
… okay, sorry I’ve totally interrupted… I just looked at our photos and realize what I have just claimed to do in one sitting. This probably won’t happen, at least not smoothly. So I’m going to go ahead and just post a little something, then proceed as if all our photographed events just happened, like now… not months and months ago… with separate blog posts for each different photo shoot. Again, I apologize for the interruption, and hopefully it won’t take me too terribly long to get us all caught up so we can enjoy the current Caleb photos soon :)
It’s been far too long since I’ve updated this site. Considering how fast babies grow and change, I have a lot of catch-up to do. Even though new blog posts are usually new, I’ll be posting pictures and videos from the past two months so you don’t miss out on all the fun.
The posts will be dated according to the photos and videos, so things may show up weirdly in your RSS, or email. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep on top of things so this won’t happen in the future.
Finally after lots design fiddling and WordPress mangling, I proudly present “Our Life” – The Adventures of Becca & Brandon. This is where both Becca and I will be posting news from our lives to keep all our loved ones up to date.
Becca and I have also been using twitter to send out updates through @imathis (me) and @justatree (Becca). We’ll keep tweeting, but for those of you who aren’t going to signup, soon I’ll have a place in the sidebar where you can read our recent tweets so you won’t miss anything.
For now, you can subscribe through RSS (?) but soon, I’ll be adding email subscription, if that suits you better.
Please if you notice something is broken on this site, let me know.
