Friends

As if a switch flipped inside of him in the last few weeks, Caleb has really started to relate to his stuffed animals. He calls them “friends”, and when we get him out of his crib in the morning and after naptime, he’ll say “Caleb bring friends downstairs too?” His friends will often join him for breakfast, where they’ll watch him eat, and they’ll get played with off and on throughout the day. Caleb’s favorites right now are Piglet and Penguin, but occasionally he’ll ask us to get Tiny Kitty, Duck, or Mokona and bring them downstairs too. He’ll say “More Friends!” several times in a row until we ask him which friends he wants us to get.

Here’s a shot of Caleb having breakfast with his friends watching. Piglet had not been summoned and was still upstairs.

Caleb Answers the Door

Becca and I were sitting in the office listening to Caleb playing with the front door (something he’s been doing a lot lately). Becca realized that he was pretending to invite people in, over and over, and I sneaked out to get this video.

This went on for a good twenty minutes.

Sneaky Face

Becca noticed that when she talked to Caleb every now and then he would turn his head to the side and shift his eyes. At first she was worried that it might be some kind of tick, but soon she realized that he made the face when she said the word “sneaky”.

We have no idea where this came from, but here are a couple of videos to show you what this looks like. These videos are about six months old, but I just realized I hadn’t posted them. So here they are.

What Did the Dogs Sound Like?

Becca and Caleb are playing on the front porch. Listening to sounds, finding airplanes and enjoying a fall day.

Becca would like it to be known that she’s mildly embarrassed by her videography skills; specifically her unintentional finger cameo.

Caleb Really Likes the Moon

This video also demonstrates two other things:

Caleb likes to make sure everyone is involved. If he does something (like ring a doorbell) we have to do it too.
When asked a question where the answer is “yes”, Caleb will chuckle if he’s especially happy about his response.

Get to Work Daddy

Working at home can be tough. Today I was having trouble focusing and I decided to play with Caleb instead. This is what he did.

Reading Frenzy

Every now and then Caleb gets into a reading-to-himself frenzy. He had been doing this for about twenty minutes before I started recording it.

We know it looks like we have a totally crazy demanding child, but it’s not what it looks like. You need to hear the story.

The story: Caleb has been asking for pancakes for about five minutes. He knows there are none left and so he’s creating some false drama. He can’t seem to stay in character though, so he keeps laughing when he’s trying to be serious.

Imaginary Airplanes

Every now and then, throughout the day, we’ll hear an airplane off in the distance. If we’re not already outside, Caleb informs us that we should be. In no time, we’re all excitedly searching the skies, trying to catch a glimpse of a magical sky traveler.

Caleb is fanatical about airplanes even though he’s never seen one up close. He doesn’t even have any airplane toys. This hasn’t stopped him from enjoying them though. In fact any object in our house might become an airplane at any time. Here are a couple videos of Caleb playing with his imaginary airplanes.
